Introduction

The License area in the Administration section provides the following functionality:

  • License ManagementStudio
  • Create New Projects
  • Update ManagementStudio

The introduction of multi-project means that it is now possible to share resources across multiple projects. For example, an organisation may wish to track the applications, devices and users through a Windows 10 Migration. The organisation may then wish to use the rich dataset produced during that project, to track a separate mobile phone migration, manage business continuity or manage laptop delivery to home users. Each of these projects or business as usual functions can either use discrete objects or share objects between projects.

Licensing is calculated on a Universal License basis. That means that each User, Device, Mailbox, Bespoke object consumes a license. The benefit being that those objects can be used in multiple projects without having to pay for additional licenses.

Generally, Licenses are synchronised with the ManagementStudio Cloud server automatically however it is possible to manually add licenses where internet connectivity is not available.

Updates to ManagementStudio are also carried out within this section through the use of an encrypted zip file.

Manually adding a License Key

When internet connectivity is not available between the ManagementStudio client and the ManagementStudio License server, it is possible to request a manual key.

Click on Apply Key then paste the key into the text box and click OK

The License should update showing a similar view to the one below

The license will show how many Universal Tickets are available how long the maintenance will last and how many Projects can be created within ManagementStudio. It also displays the number of licences consumed in each of the activated modules within your environment. The licencing model in ManagementStudio, is a cumulative total of the items in the following module:

  • Applications
  • Devices
  • User Migrations
  • Mailboxes
  • Bespoke
Please note that archived/deleted items in each of these modules do consume a licence ticket. It might be worth going through the archived/deleted queue and deleting items no longer required to recover some license.

Projects Overview

A Project in ManagementStudio represents a set of:

  • User Migrations
  • Applications
  • Devices
  • Mailboxes
  • Deployment Units

Multiple Projects provide support for a single set of ManagementStudio administrators access to a number of different "environments". A common use-case for this would be where an instance of ManagementStudio will be used to manage multiple customers. For example, if an IT Service Provider needs to manage five customer environments, each could be represented by a Project.
