Introduction

The Projection Report in ManagementStudio replaces the AAP report from MigrationStudio v7.x. The premise of this report is to provide a forecast of the most efficient way of applying resource to maximise the number of dependent items being ready. 

Example:

• 1,000 users require 175 applications to be tested against a new operating system version before they can be migrated
• What is the best order to start working through the applications?
• Which users would be ready if the first 30 applications were tested successfully?
• Can any users be upgraded before any applications have tested?

The Project Report provides the answers to these questions, and more:

Solution Overview

The Projection Report can be run in any of the main modules (User Migrations, Devices etc) and the readiness of the items in that module can be forecast against any other module.

Examples:

• To see which users could be ready based on getting applications ready, run the report from the User Migrations module, and set the Readiness Versus to Applications 
• To see which devices could be ready based on getting users ready, run the report from the Devices module, and set the Readiness Versus to User Migrations (screenshot below)

How to Run the Projection Report

In this walkthrough it is assumed that there's a requirement to migrate as many users as possible by getting this minimum number of applications ready. 

Step 1: Select the In-Scope User Migrations

1. Navigate to the User Migration module
2. If required use the grid filters or Blueprint segments (or other Segments) to limit the users displayed
3. Select the User Migrations either with Select All or by using the SHIFT/CTRL keys and clicking on the rows

Step 2: Run the Projection Report

Step 3: Set the Input Parameters and Run the Report

1. Set the Readiness Versus. In this case it is Applications
2. Set the Applications Per Week - The expected number of Application which can be completed each week
3. Set the Look Ahead Weeks - The number of weeks to forecast. Be aware that a higher number of weeks will slow the report down
4. Click Run Projection Report

Step 4: Review the Results

What does the chart show?

• The vertical bars (1) show the weekly workplan - these are interactive; clicking on any of them will update the lower portion of the report (2) with that week's forecast
• The green line shows how many items will be "Ready" at the end of the selected week
• The amber line shows how many items will be outstanding at the end of the selected week

How can the report show the best items to focus on each week?

• The bar for the second week (1) was firstly clicked
• In the lower pane the Applications tab (2) was selected
• The report was setup to recommend 10 applications per week, this is the second week, hence 20 applications have been suggested (3) made up of week 1's applications + week 2's applications

By changing the dropdown (1) from Accumulated to Point only the ten week 2 applications (2) are displayed:

How can the report show which users are forecast to be ready each week?

• By changing to the User Migrations tab (1) the list of users forecast to be ready by the end of week 2 are displayed (2)
• By changing the dropdown from Accumulated to Point the report can show just the users ready at the end of week 2, excluding those ready at the end of week 1

Advanced Options

If the report has the Readiness Versus set to Applications there are the following options:

Including Additional Items

• Pending Applications
• Dependencies (only application dependencies)
• Archive or Deleted Applications

What-If Options

What-If Applications Ready

This option can be used to paste in a list of application IDs. These applications will then be treated as "already raeady"

What-If Out of Scope Applications

This option can be used to paste in a list of Application ID. These applications will be treated as "Out of scope" and will not be considered in the forecast

What-If Process Readiness

This option can be used to mark specific processes as either Out-of-scope (OOS), Not Ready, or Ready
