What Are Plugins?
Plugins are pre-packaged sets of configuration elements and assets designed to extend the built-in capabilities of ManagementStudio. They enable administrators to quickly deploy new functionality without the need for complex manual setup.
A typical plugin may include:
- Portal Pages
- Portal Forms
- DMR (Data Mining Reports)
- PowerShell Scripts
- Email Templates
- Automation Rules
- And other supporting artefacts
These components are bundled together to deliver a specific process, feature, or enhancement—streamlining your configuration workload and ensuring consistency across environments.

Important: Plugin Updates & Customisations
Plugins may be updated over time to introduce new features or address bugs. However, please take care when installing newer versions:
Do not install a new version of a plugin over your existing installation if you have made custom changes. Importing a plugin will overwrite all components included in the package, which may result in the loss of any modifications you have made.
Best practices:
- Always back up your existing configuration (DB) before updating a plugin.
- Test updated plugins in a staging environment where possible.
- If necessary, manually compare and reapply your changes to the updated version.
